Customized Orthopaedic Rehab

Orthopaedic rehabilitation aims to treat individuals with musculoskeletal & postural injuries.

It consists of a comprehensive initial evaluation and an analysis of all the affected areas by the condition. There is a special focus on achieving precise movements with the correct biomechanical alignment during all mobility.

Orthopaedic injuries are commonly treated in our clinic. Falls, traumas, or incorrect postures can cause pain & prolonged inflammation, which in turn limits the individual’s capacity to participate in their preferred physical activity and(or) sport participation.  We specialize in these types of evaluations, guiding your body to achieve better function and adaptation to physical stress, while ensuring adequate body mechanics and postural control.

This comprehensive evaluation has a duration of approximately one full hour. The results of this analysis will guide the clinician in determining the proper course of rehabilitation treatment, also taking into account the medical diagnosis and individual characteristics, among other factors.

The following describe some parts of the initial PT evaluation:

EXAMINATION:

  • Postural and biomechanical movement analysis
  • Manual muscle testing of all muscle groups
  • Relative stiffness muscle assessment & flexibility
  • Range of motion joint measurements
  • Standardized measurement utilization (subjective and objective)
  • Compensatory movement and motor control analysis during specific movements.
  • Postural analysis
  • Balance and equlibrium
  • Propioception
  • Coordination
  • Complete analysis of quality and efficacy of functional movements

Examples of orthopeadic injuries that can benefit from an individualized physical therapy program include the following:

  • Orthopaedic Injuries (tendinopathies, bursitis, ligament sprains, post-operative rehabilitation, joint luxations, impingement injuries, post-bone fracture rehabilitation, physical stress and over-use injuries) & injuries specific to each joint:
  • Shoulder injuries, Elbow injuries, Wrist & Hand injuries, Hip injuries, Knee injuries, Foot & ankle injuries
  • Postural Alterations: Scoliosis, kyphosis, Scapular Dyskinisias, Genu Valgus (knees go in), Genu Varus (knees go out), Pelvic Torsions, Flat feet, Hallux valgus (bunion), Hammer toes
  • Spine Injuries: Lumbalgia, dorsalgia y cervicalgia, Radicular pain, Bulging and(or) Herniated Discs, Nerve compressions, Spinal stenosis, Spondylolisthesis, Sequelae post whiplash injuries of the cervical spine, Degenerative changes, Scoliosis, Spine Fractures, Post-op spinal surgery
  • Rheumatological Conditions:  Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, HiperlaxityJoint pain, Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid), Fibromyalgia, Ankylosis Spondilitis, Osteopenia & Osteoporosis, Compressive Syndromes
  • Compressive Nerve Syndromes (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, tarsal tunnel, brachial plexus injuries, radial tunnel, amongst others)

This program works via a specialized and individualized exercise program with focus on improving ideal postural alignment, correct biomechanics, & precise movements during all mobility.

Our main goal with orthopaedic rehabilitation is to accelerate recovery time with focus on correcting faulty body mechanics in the long-run to prevent re-injury.

TREATMENT:

  • Rehabilitation techniques based on scientific evidence & innovative and up-to-date treatment strategies.
  • Focus on education to the individual regarding management of the specific diagnosis.
  • Rehabilitation strategies guided specifically to promote ideal alignment and correct body mechanics
  • Team work and joint efforts with the medical team
  • Optimization of the body’s biomechanics regarding to static and dynamic postures.
  • Specific & individualized recommendations based on how to move during the activities of daily living.
  • Muscular re-education.
  • Individualized instruction regarding the correct form to perform functional exercises.
  • Postural re-education
  • Specific instruction on corrective exercises, strengthening exercises, and flexibility exercises.
