Vestibular-Ocular Reflex
- The ratio of eye velocity to head velocity is known as the gain of the vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR).
- The ability to hold the eyes fixed on a target while the head is moving is known as gaze stabilization.
- The gain of an intact VOR is usually equal to one, which means movement of the eyes is equal to the movement of the head. The patient with vestibular disorder has usually self-limited the speed of head movement to accommodate for the abnormal gain.
