Correct placement
At Clínica NeuroFT we use several tools that will help us achieve a better alignment in the muscles of the pelvis and spine. One of those is the Sacro Wedgy, which is a device used to align the muscles of the pelvis. It is placed on the tailbone to raise the pelvis, relaxing the muscles that go from the spine to this specific place and helping to eliminate pain symptoms.
In the following video, Dr. Lisa Riggioni explains how to properly position the Sacro Wedgy, allowing the muscles to release all accumulated tension.
The first thing to do is lie on your side to place the device at the level of the tailbone; As a tip, you can do a bridge exercise and then with the index finger hold the Sacro Wedgy in this place at the center of the buttocks. Then the black foam piece is placed to give more stability, after and very carefully turn on the back and stretch your legs.
It is very important to put at least two rolls of cloths on your neck (as in the video) or what your therapist specifically instructed you. The rolls should not go under the head but on the neck. This support will allow better traction and achieve a better balance.
How to use?
In this second part, Dr. Riggioni shows how to use the Sacro Wedgy correctly to obtain the expected results. In the video, you can see the appliance placed in the sinking tailbone. All the muscles that go from the back to the pelvis and from there to the femur should be felt; the goal is that all those muscles relax when stretching the legs.
In the correct position, lying on the sacrum wedgy, Dr. explains how the psoas muscle (hip flexor) is released; commonly this muscle contributes to back pain and to its unnecessary rotation. To relax it, one leg must be bent (while the other is stretched) and then the stretched leg should be doing point with the feet, at least 5 repetitions with each leg, holding the pointed foot in the final position.
The exercise program using this tool lasts between 15-20 minutes a day, depending on what your therapist at the Clínica NeuroFT specifically indicates.
If you have pain that affects this muscle area and you have not received a specific diagnosis, do not hesitate to consult our specialists to help you with your condition. If, on the other hand, you have already been diagnosed and must perform this type of exercise, remember to take into account the correct posture and positioning. The Sacro Wedgy plays an important role in treating patients, so by using it efficiently, you can take full advantage of its benefits.
