Vestibular Function

  • The vestibular system provides the central nervous system with information about the position and motion of the head in relation to gravity. The vestibular system is critical for balance, because it uniquely identifies self-motion as different from motion in the environment, provides stable vision while the head is moving, and serves as a “referee” when visual and somatosensory inputs conflict.
